SPECIAL EVENTS
Friends, in partnership with other local groups and individuals, host a variety of annual events in Riding Mountain National Park. Whether it is exploring the cultural heritage of the area, the environmental significance of the Park, or just having fun, these events are yearly traditions, which add to the enjoyment of Riding Mountain. Unless otherwise indicated, these events are free to the public.
RIDING MOUNTAIN LOPPET
March 6 & 7, 2010A Norwegian term for a long-distance cross-country ski race, a "loppet" is for anyone who loves the joy of gliding across the snow, whether for fun or for competition. The Riding Mountain Loppet on Saturday, March 6, 2010 will have distances of 1.0 km (Chipmunk), 5.7 km (Jackrabbit), 13 km (Cougar) or 26 km (Wolf) for skiers of all ages and skill levels. Family Fun Day Sunday, March 7th, 2010 offers a variety of free outdoor activities, so be sure to make this event one of many wonderful weekends in Riding Mountain National Park. GPS ADVENTURE QUEST
June 12 & 13, 2010Take part in the 4th Annual Caching Riding Mountain GPS Adventure Quest and discover the people, places and heritage of the Riding Mountain Biosphere Reserve and its core area, Riding Mountain National Park. Travel through the 15,000 square kilometers of the Biosphere Reserve locating over 50 caches that have been placed by communities, individuals and businesses for this specific event...
NATIONAL ABORIGINAL AWARENESS DAY
June 21, 2010Join thousands of Canadians across the country as we celebrate National Aboriginal Day. Held on the summer solstice, this is a special day to celebrate the unique heritage, cultures and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people in Canada.
JUNIOR NATURALIST PROGRAM Begins
June 28, 2010Since 1998 Friends of Riding Mountain National Park has offered a Junior Naturalist education program for children between the ages of 5 and 12. The focus of this program is to provide children and families with the opportunity to learn about nature; wildlife; ecological integrity and the cultural/archaeological history of Riding Mountain National Park, the Riding Mountain Biosphere Reserve, and the province of Manitoba.
CANADA DAY
July 1, 2010Join millions of Canadians across the country as we celebrate Canada's 141st birthday. Music, cake and activities for everyone. Evening fireworks in Onanole, Manitoba (4.0 km south of Riding Mountain National Park).
PARKS DAY
July 17, 2010Celebrate the importance of our parks and historic sites. Take a hike on one of our 40 trails - over 400 km of forests, grasslands and escarpment to discover. Join us at the bandstand on the main beach for music and entertainment.
WASAGAMING WEEKEND
August 6 - 8, 2010Take part in a variety of events organized by Riding Mountain National Park's townsite businesses and Chamber of Commerce. Street parties, dog shows, sand castle building and beach volleyball tournaments. There is truly something for everyone.
FRIENDS KIDDIE PARADE
August 7, 2010Do you enjoy dressing up in a costume? Are you are under the age of 14? If you answered "yes" to both of these questions join Friends in our annual Wasagaming Weekend kiddie parade. Our kid friendly parade route will be lined by hundreds of cheering spectators! Prizes, drinks and treats to follow.

FRIENDS FRIGHT NIGHT
